			 individuals may update the burn pit registry with the cause of death of a
			 registered individual, and for other purposes.</official-title></form>
	<legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause" id="H756617D955324C9D889A7C05327ED305" style="OLC">
 <section id="H16E7E004E7E24141932075100644648C" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Burn Pit Registry Enhancement Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="H41D35543B9BD40529041D2F9EAF2E495"><enum>2.</enum><header>Updates of burn pit registry established and maintained by Department of Veterans Affairs</header> <subsection id="H20BDBF7A617A4FBAB3950C138A3F13F3"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Individuals eligible To update</header> <paragraph id="H0E7067BFD7A941D9AFC308773F005236"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall take actions necessary to ensure that the burn pit registry may be updated with the cause of death of a deceased registered individual by—</text>
 <subparagraph id="HF1F1B941A9C04E6AB39C6D412FA9DDB8"><enum>(A)</enum><text>an individual designated by such deceased registered individual; or</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H5350C76D0B2244B6A16DAF4B0E0907F8"><enum>(B)</enum><text>if no such individual is designated, an immediate family member of such deceased registered individual.</text>
 </subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H7229CDFF56EC42D4B17F48BC90DA78EB"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Designation</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary shall provide, with respect to the burn pit registry, a process by which a registered individual may make a designation for purposes of paragraph (1)(A).</text>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H0096CF504FA74DAFB748A89FE26F5A17"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section:</text> <paragraph id="H23950DC79D70450DBD8ED42125AE1D01"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>burn pit registry</term> means the registry established under section 201 of the Dignified Burial and Other Veterans’ Benefits Improvement Act of 2012 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/112/260">Public Law 112–260</external-xref>; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/527">38 U.S.C. 527</external-xref> note).</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H6827978D8CAC42B3A1E8AD24507D63CD"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>immediate family member</term>, with respect to a deceased individual, means—</text> <subparagraph id="H2AFD3767C30A4D1BA1AB07D25D8C976D"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the spouse, parent, brother, sister, or adult child of the individual;</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H4708B49EE7A94822835D2CC57B96F1E5"><enum>(B)</enum><text>an adult person to whom the individual stands in loco parentis; or</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H261FBFF40D9840ED9B1583BD99AD06C2"><enum>(C)</enum><text>any other adult person—</text>
 <clause id="H9A45E6C49AA5451081A7AAA386C988B9"><enum>(i)</enum><text>living in the household of the individual at the time of the death of the individual; and</text> </clause><clause id="H8FFFEF348F0D41F5B2331C54644FA919"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>related to the individual by blood or marriage.</text>
 </clause></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H0753854249F14D849E76E093AAF46788"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The term <term>registered individual</term> means an individual registered with the burn pit registry.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
