			 Education Act of 1965 to require inclusion of programs that educate
			 students about the history and principles of the Constitution of the
			 United States, including the Bill of Rights.</official-title></form>
	<legis-body display-enacting-clause="yes-display-enacting-clause">
 <section id="S1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Constitution Education Is Valuable in Community Schools Act of 2019</short-title></quote> or <quote><short-title>CIVICS Act of 2019</short-title></quote> .</text>
 </section><section id="id0814438BBD274EF3BB05330B7A83CF55"><enum>2.</enum><header>National activities</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2233(b) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/6663">20 U.S.C. 6663(b)</external-xref>) is amended by striking paragraphs (1) and (2) and inserting the following:</text>
			<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id6F89B56CE41148A5BD764D522B82F89D" style="OLC">
 <paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFE91B98A0F7D4E4E97164C4EF22FF473"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">shall—</text> <subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HC17EF604536C400DAF735E784B5904C5"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">show potential to improve the quality of student achievement in, and teaching of, American history, civics and government, or geography, in elementary schools and secondary schools;</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H9267E2EB245B46E39924D2B2422A8AD5"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">demonstrate innovation, scalability, accountability, and a focus on underserved populations; and</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id38694CB8700E43379CF93B0C9658DA69"><enum>(C)</enum><text>include programs that educate students about the history and principles of the Constitution of the United States, including the Bill of Rights; and</text>
 </subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H712735139D7146ADA93918AD4A13464F"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">may include hands-on civic engagement activities for teachers and students.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body></bill>
