<whereas><text>Whereas the House of Representatives is committed to the use of forensic science in the investigation of crimes, the prosecution and conviction of the correct perpetrators of crimes, and the exoneration of innocent individuals falsely accused of crimes in the United States;</text></whereas> <whereas><text>Whereas forensic science service providers address critical criminal and civil questions in the United States, including by providing scientific conclusions relating to forensic evidence;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas forensic science service providers partner with—</text> <paragraph id="HB86D08DFA54C4B09B9A9BE054465E605"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Federal agencies to build and maintain criminal databases relating to latent prints, DNA, and other information relevant to criminal cases; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H33EBEBF8DC534F4EBF7D4AFE77C8689E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Federal, State, and local agencies to ensure public safety;</text></paragraph></whereas> <whereas><text>Whereas forensic science service providers serve a vital role in the criminal justice system by providing scientific information to investigators and officers of the court; and</text></whereas> 
<whereas commented="no"><text>Whereas the third week in September is recognized as <quote>National Forensic Science Week</quote>: Now, therefore, be it </text></whereas></preamble><resolution-body style="traditional" id="HCBD270A9C27B448898E10FC5CB8B9A13"> <section display-inline="yes-display-inline" section-type="undesignated-section" id="H6F2AF92F63C7403CB440CAD249204FCC"><text>That— </text> 
<paragraph id="H951C210ED43F4B41B33BF9BF5C1C2B1A"><enum>(1)</enum><text>it is the sense of the House of Representatives that <quote>National Forensic Science Week</quote> provides a special opportunity for—</text> <subparagraph id="HB5783DCDE77544858E55E87B9E337CFB"><enum>(A)</enum><text>forensic service providers to—</text> 
<clause id="HD684A6C9400C4FFFAC353083F3C921FC"><enum>(i)</enum><text>recognize the contributions of forensic scientists in the laboratories in which those individuals work;</text></clause> <clause id="HA0FA1ACB6A3F4515B2BD74DE881F330D"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>organize community events to encourage a better understanding of forensic science;</text></clause> 
<clause id="HB83BF2DEFF6442DD99A88AE5E4ED14B6"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>provide tours to Federal, State, and local policymakers to assist those individuals in gaining better insight into the current capabilities of forensic service providers and future demands that forensic service providers will face; and</text></clause> <clause id="HB56C4C8113294D3AA68721448A5741C8"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>contact local media outlets and invite those groups to cover events hosted during <quote>National Forensic Science Week</quote>;</text></clause></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H6CC57A9DA7E341589839D2AE0AB3812C"><enum>(B)</enum><text>local policymakers to—</text> <clause id="HDB20242071DC4D74BDA7465CFD1B0ED2"><enum>(i)</enum><text>recognize, through formal commendation or resolution, the contributions of local forensic science laboratories to the communities of those policymakers;</text></clause> 
<clause id="H295705244CC943A08712CDE3454185A2"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>formally declare a <quote>Forensic Science Week</quote> by proclamation;</text></clause> <clause id="H19652AB45331413BA4F5F2EE3FBD2EA9"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>visit local forensic science laboratories to gain an understanding of the capabilities and needs of those laboratories; and</text></clause> 
<clause id="H0163C387A56C49C3ABD3FBA854E12E61"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>discuss the operational needs of State and local forensic science laboratories;</text></clause></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H3282FC28099D45C6A809A9B31A66790C"><enum>(C)</enum><text>members of communities in the United States, including members of the media, to—</text> 
<clause id="H83AE6AA8FE4E4E42AFB33E1C2D688C23"><enum>(i)</enum><text>attend community events sponsored by local forensic science laboratories;</text></clause> <clause id="H8782B221BEA841748F43EF77E626AF28"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>take tours of local forensic science laboratories; and</text></clause> 
<clause id="HDF179A0A57E947ACA337650A7CB28FF7"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>ask local forensic science laboratories about the operational and legislative needs of those laboratories;</text></clause></subparagraph> <subparagraph id="H5A12977AC26C4E9E98E1EEAE3119B9AD"><enum>(D)</enum><text>members of the media to highlight local news stories that focus on the work of local forensic science laboratories in the communities that those laboratories serve; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HFB6CEE7917EC46A2B81844F1D2ABA718"><enum>(E)</enum><text>public safety officers, law enforcement officers, and officers of the court to—</text> <clause id="H96D0ADD7BDEF4B53B3B6F81CAD30643D"><enum>(i)</enum><text>attend community events sponsored by local forensic science laboratories;</text></clause> 
<clause id="HE1882CAFE0294267A429C2E5562AC853"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>take tours of local forensic science laboratories;</text></clause> <clause id="H67848F666E7747A1BFFA59EC09EDF20D"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>discuss the operational needs of State and local forensic laboratories; and</text></clause> 
<clause id="H51EE2F00035245999274E67AB2480293"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>engage local forensic science laboratories regarding working together more effectively; and</text></clause></subparagraph></paragraph> <paragraph id="HFBB71C4941EC41BB8B821E1B5D13E5D3"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the House of Representatives supports the goals and ideals of <quote>National Forensic Science Week</quote>.</text></paragraph></section>
