			 Violence Awareness Month.</official-title></form>
	<preamble>
 <whereas><text>Whereas, in the United States each year, more than—</text> <paragraph id="HE752188956F74816AC131A3EC40846D8"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">36,000 individuals are killed and 100,000 individuals are injured by gunfire;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HA5494A60CDEA429AAAF10450FBE77550"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">12,000 individuals are killed in homicides involving firearms;</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="H6672DABFD94C4C44984F3745874BCAB3"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">22,000 individuals commit suicide by using firearms; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H6B4A13B3303D44BB97DDB1AA7DCB7209"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">500 individuals are killed in unintentional shootings;</text> </paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, since 1968, more individuals have died from guns in the United States than have on the battlefields of all the wars in the history of the United States;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, by one count, in 2018 in the United States, there were—</text> <paragraph id="H7EA6E1C17CB34D2DA73E5ABA25F384F1"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">340 mass shooting incidents in which not fewer than 4 people were killed or wounded by gunfire; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H712CF19C5A724BA8952329800298DEEA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>103 incidents in which a gun was fired in a school or college;</text> </paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas gun violence typically escalates during the summer months;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas nearly 2,900 children and teens are killed by gun violence every year;</text> </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, every 70 minutes, one person in the United States under the age of 25 dies because of gun violence;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas more than 6,300 of such persons die annually, including Hadiya Pendleton, who, in 2013, at age 15, was killed while standing in a Chicago park;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, on the first weekend of June to recognize Hadiya Pendleton’s 22nd birthday, people across the United States will recognize <quote>National Gun Violence Awareness Weekend</quote> and wear orange in tribute to Hadiya, other victims of gun violence, and their loved ones; and</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas June 2019 would be an appropriate month to designate as <quote>National Gun Violence Awareness Month</quote>: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble> <resolution-body id="HCD0B27D2489C46EB8A878EB0064BD3F6" style="traditional"> <section display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="HD92B33077DCA4119B79183545610B364" section-type="undesignated-section"><enum></enum><text>That the House of Representatives—</text>
 <paragraph id="H903C20254C544E41827A193413ECF174"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">supports—</text> <subparagraph id="HEFE9125FAA4D4E94AB7CE5D4F773A408"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the goals and ideals of National Gun Violence Awareness Month; and</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="HEC03ED30B9334C5FA768ACB7E6E0ACDF"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the goals and ideals of National Gun Violence Awareness Weekend in remembrance of the victims of gun violence; and</text>
 </subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H263D472FCC2D4B8EB88D49D5348DDACE"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">calls on the people of the United States to—</text> <subparagraph id="H553F1D45B2C24E3288A33C1C21C653D9"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">promote greater awareness of gun violence and gun safety;</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="HBA9C4B1DF26648BC952C6406EE4CC1B7"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">wear orange, the color that hunters wear to show they are not targets, on National Gun Violence Awareness Weekend;</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H1ABC1208C7084EFF9A151886B40C45B3"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">concentrate heightened attention on gun violence during the summer months, when gun violence typically increases; and</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H901405DE5C244C90A3D5C7D065538BBF"><enum>(D)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">bring citizens and community leaders together to discuss ways to make communities safer.</text> </subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
