	<preamble>
 <whereas><text>Whereas Congress passed the Act of July 2, 1862 (commonly known as the <quote>First Morrill Act</quote>) (12 Stat. 503, chapter 130; <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/7/301">7 U.S.C. 301</external-xref> et seq.), which was signed by President Abraham Lincoln, to allow for the establishment of land-grant colleges offering programs teaching agriculture and the mechanic arts;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, on February 15, 1869, the Nebraska Legislature unanimously passed, and Nebraska Governor David Butler signed, legislation enabling the founding of the University of Nebraska;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the charter for the University of Nebraska established the University of Nebraska as a university <quote>to afford to the inhabitants of this State, the means of acquiring a thorough knowledge of the various branches of literature, science and the arts</quote>;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas, in 1871, the University of Nebraska opened its doors to men and women across the State of Nebraska, with an inaugural class of 130 students;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the University of Nebraska, now known as the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, has grown to an enrollment of 25,820 students;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is a national leader in academic excellence, research, and service;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the University of Nebraska–Lincoln has a $2,000,000,000 annual economic impact on the State of Nebraska, including more than $300,000,000 in research expenditures each year;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the University of Nebraska–Lincoln provides more than 5,000 new graduates to the workforce each year;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the University of Nebraska–Lincoln serves the needs of students, families, and communities across the State of Nebraska through activities in all 93 counties of the State;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is a leader in research in areas such as—</text> <paragraph id="idEDCD0F1AC75D41BCA22C7834705890A8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>water and agriculture;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="id01E4B8543555400099135CE49BFBBC09"><enum>(2)</enum><text>national security and defense;</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="id250C573218D046CE82F11441ED867D84"><enum>(3)</enum><text>early childhood education; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="id61D8FA6DA51642C8858D0CAD2C77296F"><enum>(4)</enum><text>rural development;</text> </paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the University of Nebraska–Lincoln is instrumental in celebrating the culture of the State of Nebraska and the region in which the State is located through—</text>
 <paragraph id="id743D9742EEBE4586A208057A2B29E07C"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the University of Nebraska State Museum;</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="id256B681C900A4F3EB0B36937D40A8259"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the Center for Great Plains Studies;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="id56D5A2A7F18A4D8C8EC15B380C52DC52"><enum>(3)</enum><text>the International Quilt Study Center and Museum; and</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="id5F0D5BC28F4D49A38CD793739E9ED199"><enum>(4)</enum><text>the Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum;</text>
 </paragraph></whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the Husker athletic programs at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln create pride and joy on the fields of play and in the hearts of alumni and fans;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the University of Nebraska–Lincoln has 333 Academic All-Americans, more than any other institution of higher education in the United States;</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas more than 200,000 alumni residing in all 50 States, and in countries around the world, are proud to call the University of Nebraska–Lincoln their alma mater; and</text>
 </whereas><whereas><text>Whereas <quote>There Is No Place Like Nebraska</quote>: Now, therefore, be it</text> </whereas></preamble> <resolution-body id="HAC94E0AC519A4BE1990EA725D28E49B5" style="traditional"> <section display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H4D96EB60550A46F6811038542365D196" section-type="undesignated-section"><enum></enum><text>That the House of Representatives—</text>
 <paragraph id="H24CEC46B37664E429302CDAAAE55DB64"><enum>(1)</enum><text>recognizes the 150th anniversary of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln;</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="H88557E9081ED44A584B197F92F1D1BCF"><enum>(2)</enum><text>commends the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for its status as a leading public university that excels in academics, athletics, and quality of life for students; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HC57BE15A15FB4BFEB6EB2E6B8A3080BF"><enum>(3)</enum><text>respectfully requests that the Clerk of the House transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to—</text> <subparagraph id="HE792F7A14259452B8F3D0B200EFEEDEA"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the Chancellor of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln; and</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="HCD758B3BEFEB4905A13B7C31876E6DB6"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the President of the University of Nebraska system.</text> </subparagraph></paragraph></section></resolution-body></resolution>
