			 of Veterans Affairs shall provide reimbursement for emergency ambulance
			 services.</official-title></form>
	<legis-body id="H2E92760370EE4CEBA965AC12830C671C" style="OLC">
 <section id="HDD5FE94ECCC94893A35230D4B47E4796" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Veterans Reimbursement for Emergency Ambulance Services Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>VREASA</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="HA6D02D360D674F9EA2344AE115185AC1"><enum>2.</enum><header>Secretary of Veterans Affairs reimbursement for emergency ambulance services</header> <subsection id="H2B34EA571EA44F4CA16703371D0E77C1"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1725(c) of title 38, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new paragraph:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H58EC3FE7C9F4475CA46F65EA57E1DF5C" style="USC">
 <paragraph id="H5CF0DD5A631A45319BA95BA02DA9BAFE" indent="up1"><enum>(5)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In delineating the circumstances under which reimbursement may be made under this section for ambulance services for an individual, the Secretary shall treat such services as emergency services for which reimbursement may be made under this section if the Secretary determines that—</text>
 <subparagraph id="H485A36AF63FB4849A4461DFFA5066D35"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the request for ambulance services was made as a result of the sudden onset of a medical condition of such a nature that a prudent layperson who possesses an average knowledge of health and medicine—</text>
 <clause id="H31724116952245EB8E8A420767E0884D"><enum>(i)</enum><text>would have reasonably expected that a delay in seeking immediate medical attention would have been hazardous to the life or health of the individual; or</text>
 </clause><clause id="H4438AA46E8EA46C8BC8BAB27AF71F4E1"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>could reasonably expect the absence of immediate medical attention to result in placing the health of the individual in serious jeopardy, the serious impairment of bodily functions, or the serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part; and</text>
 </clause></subparagraph><subparagraph id="H47126695C8CC452FBB055C873ABA1823"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the individual is transported to the closest and most appropriate medical facility capable of treating such emergency medical condition.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
 </subsection><subsection id="H2899CAD1A61C41E9BF76CBA3943CAE3B"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendment made by subsection (a) shall apply with respect to ambulance services provided on or after January 1, 2019.</text>
