			 experience required for airline transport pilot certification.</official-title></form>
	<legis-body id="H229EC607D416408B8CF423A62A5C27AA" style="OLC">
 <section id="H654DBA77AB71410AA6CCDFA7A11ED7C9" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Pilot Act of 2018</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="HE1D4917453634C3881427BEC9925A77C"><enum>2.</enum><header>Deferral of loan repayment during accrual of aeronautical experience required for airline transport pilot certification</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Part G of title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1088">20 U.S.C. 1088</external-xref> et seq.) is amended by adding at the end the following new section:</text>
			<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HA0C89A943C614871B30AC3967AA20D07" style="OLC">
				<section id="H08DCE19193834FCF85230081544651E7"><enum>493E.</enum><header>Deferral of loan repayment during accrual of aeronautical experience required for airline transport
			 pilot certification</header>
 <subsection id="H75D6FC570B7446DA8E94F1734A122747"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Deferral of loan repayment during accrual of aeronautical experience</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In addition to any deferral of repayment of a loan made under this title pursuant to section 428(b)(1)(M), 455(f)(2) or 464(c)(2)(A), a qualified borrower shall be eligible for a deferment, during which periodic installments of principal need not be paid and interest shall not accrue, for a period not to exceed 3 years following the attainment of a bachelor’s degree described in <internal-xref idref="H0E144A17DC964E9F86AC0F2079D6821C" legis-path="493E.(b)(1)">subsection (b)(1)</internal-xref>, except that a deferment under this subsection shall expire upon the qualified borrower’s—</text>
 <paragraph id="H5975AA05EBA74908820586D3DABC8554"><enum>(1)</enum><text>completion of the aeronautical experience requirements imposed under section 44703 of title 49, United States Code, for the airline transport pilot certificate sought; or</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H0073AFBEF5FC42A59A46318286835FE1"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">failure to actively work to accrue the aeronautical experience required to apply for such certificate.</text>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H9E8CB842CC4D440D8981D7771F06985B"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Qualified borrower</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>qualified borrower</term> means a borrower of a loan under this title who—</text> <paragraph id="H0E144A17DC964E9F86AC0F2079D6821C"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">has attained a bachelor's degree with an aviation major from an institution of higher education that has been issued a letter of authorization by the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration under section 61.169 of title 14, Code of Federal Regulations; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HD9037AAD896C4555B8705CD49D3B2940"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">is actively working to accrue the aeronautical experience required to apply for an airline transport pilot certificate.</text>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H60E9586913E7433D995DECBCEDB6C6C0"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Regulations</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than one year after the date of enactment of the <short-title>Pilot Act of 2018</short-title>, the Secretary shall, in consultation with the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, develop guidelines—</text>
 <paragraph id="H0A8801E1988F431E9979974B2ED91AAB"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">for determining for the purposes of this section when a borrower has completed the aeronautical experience requirements imposed under section 44703 of title 49, United States Code, for the airline transport pilot certificate sought;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HFEE181B6BBEE428582B953D67B1E9372"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">for determining for the purposes of this section whether a borrower is actively working to accrue the aeronautical experience requirements required to apply for an airline transport pilot certificate; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H0D150A07341649B492ADD345C16FE1A2"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">for reporting to the Secretary the progress a qualified borrower is making towards completion of such aeronautical experience requirements, including the frequency of such reporting.</text>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H81855245EF0E4180B17DA6724D3C31BD"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Other definitions</header><text>In this section:</text> <paragraph id="H680090530DA0409CAEABBBA258CF9FE0"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Aeronautical experience</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>aeronautical experience</term> has the meaning given such term in section 61.1 of title 14, Code of Federal Regulations.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H0F4D5E50EE0C4B599ADD0760675DCAE3"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Airline transport pilot certificate</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>airline transport pilot certificate</term> means an airman certificate described in section 44703(b)(2) of title 49, United States Code.</text> </paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </section></legis-body></bill>
