			 secondary school officials research for improving school safety, and for
			 other purposes.</official-title></form>

 <section id="HB8C070DD224D4C18B0325C4FF7C8075C" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Make Schools Safer Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="HC68E95B41BEB4A029AF216B38D1F6960"><enum>2.</enum><header>Dissemination of research on best practices to improve school safety</header> <subsection id="H4B9241DCE05E47BEA6B3247C0800AF34"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Director of the Institute of Education Sciences shall make available to elementary school and secondary school officials, including school counselors, rigorous research, as determined by the Director, for improving school safety, which may include identifying best practices for—</text>
 <paragraph id="HA0FF40A952C74467A7529E3B1D52085D"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">educating appropriate school personnel on techniques for identifying students who may pose a violent threat; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HB998F579932F4470BB9B1914D04226D8"><enum>(2)</enum><text>collaborating, as appropriate, with health care professionals, State and local law enforcement, youth organizations, and parents to implement procedures for—</text>
 <subparagraph id="H60580445BB7D49FA8E7BDE5E7F167051"><enum>(A)</enum><text>early identification of students at risk of committing violence, including those who may have mental illness;</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="HCD3C9DD0880C413FACFD9FB09DC0273C"><enum>(B)</enum><text>use of crisis response systems;</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H63F63A24FE90487693B2CF678FCAE527"><enum>(C)</enum><text>use of referral mechanisms for mental health and other treatment services; and</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H1240025B302A44EA8D91FFF5F4471174"><enum>(D)</enum><text>designing interventions for students described in subparagraph (A).</text> </subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H1883133863E94FC4AE15F3FE9AAD5342"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Construction</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Nothing in this section shall be constructed to authorize advocacy or promotion of gun control.</text>
