 <section id="HC01C536FC3F249B3A7BDDF2ECD62E577" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Combating Opioid Misuse Before Addiction for our Troops Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>COMBAT Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="HAE54F644DB10494E8F00391AAC2F0675" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Treatment of opioids under the pharmacy benefits program of the Department of Defense</header> <subsection id="HC805947A1BDA49E3AD779C8F34657067"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Supply</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Except as provided by subsection (b), and except as otherwise provided by the prescribing medical professional, in carrying out the pharmacy benefits program under section 1074g of title 10, United States Code, the Secretary of Defense shall ensure that—</text>
 <paragraph id="H92B6B65AA5E8403EBFFF13FF0699297B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the first prescription for an opioid provided during a course of treatment is limited to a seven-day supply of the opioid; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H3011BC4531774EF49BBB7026A3F4E9BE"><enum>(2)</enum><text>any further supply is subject to a renewal of the prescription.</text> </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HF06978E6EF534AA7AA7AEAA89BB1B270"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Exception</header><text>The limitation in subsection (a) shall not apply with respect to an individual who—</text>
 <paragraph id="H2EB19373E3F34332A952DC28EBDF38E4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>suffers from chronic pain and participates in a pain management program;</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="H1BD90E6F7BB64FE39AEB3560F0204694"><enum>(2)</enum><text>is being treated for cancer;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HBE73AAC548744A798826A31463535EF7"><enum>(3)</enum><text>is being treated for a traumatic injury;</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="HBE793E2345AE46B7B18949EAAA9E5DF6"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">is being treated for opioid or substance abuse disorder;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H46EBD6D217B64C4B86E49598EE24B665"><enum>(5)</enum><text>receives hospice care; or</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="H216C7109DD0C458DABE940EA9E577075"><enum>(6)</enum><text>receives palliative care.</text>
