			 contracts and agreements for the placement of veterans in non-Department
			 medical foster homes for certain veterans who are unable to live

 <section id="H6B38085CE76E46C2AF9087D97B372991" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Long-Term Care Veterans Choice Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="H33C624EAA8924B9685A1C9E1B4402E1A" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Secretary of Veterans Affairs contract authority for placement of veterans in non-Department medical foster homes</header> <subsection id="HBFFB4891A8A8420E8BD70A02A9B7CE62"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Authority</header><text>Section 1720 of title 38, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:</text>

					<subsection id="H2A43D9C0F0844E948F57950C0604AA64"><enum>(h)</enum>
 <paragraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="HE71A93A2535D460C92BD1B032B65EB61"><enum>(1)</enum><text>During the three-year period beginning on October 1, 2019, and subject to paragraph (2), at the request of a veteran for whom the Secretary is required to provide nursing home care under section 1710A of this title, the Secretary may place the veteran in a medical foster home that meets Department standards, at the expense of the United States, pursuant to a contract or agreement entered into between the Secretary and the medical foster home for such purpose. A veteran who is placed in a medical foster home under this subsection shall agree, as a condition of such placement, to accept home health services furnished by the Secretary under section 1717 of this title.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H759ABDFF4EB64131A115A5AD13CC9188" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Not more than 900 veterans placed in a medical foster home, whether placed before or after the date of the enactment of this subsection, may have their care covered at the expense of the United States under subsection (a).</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H3099AA596543420F81A31A44F34B362C" indent="up1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>In this subsection, the term <term>medical foster home</term> means a home designed to provide non-institutional, long-term, supportive care for veterans who are unable to live independently and prefer a family setting.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
 </subsection><subsection id="HAA818683CAD94A82A926E9A81E8DF476"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>Subsection (h) of title 38, United States Code, as added by subsection (a), shall take effect on October 1, 2019.</text>
