 <section id="HB4524FDFB0FF4E5BABCF6B8320D4DEBD" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Preventing Crimes Against Veterans Act of 2017</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="HE9EAB3EDE92544C2A0B8CFA5A60C5EA1"><enum>2.</enum><header>Additional tool to prevent certain frauds against veterans</header> <subsection id="H3873E12C693948D88C995F23BB3F1EB1"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/63">Chapter 63</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

					<section id="H9DA26EDC6D2D43608662258BE4207D47"><enum>1352.</enum><header>Fraud regarding veterans’ benefits</header>
 <subsection id="H0C8FE90D0B7D4E3EB4CC14718778C370"><enum>(a)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whoever knowingly executes, or attempts to execute, any scheme or artifice to defraud an individual of veterans’ benefits, or in connection with obtaining veteran’s benefits for that individual, shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than five years, or both.</text>
 </subsection><subsection id="HE85A82B84D964536884C8D0181E82B45"><enum>(b)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section—</text> <paragraph id="H8A0A7050FF514C3D91D42F0CFBE1C59D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the term <quote>veteran</quote> has the meaning given that term in section 101 of title 38; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H2C27AC21EFEE42B586B7786248AA745B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the term <quote>veterans’ benefits</quote> means any benefit provided by Federal law for a veteran or a dependent or survivor of a veteran.</text></paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </subsection><subsection id="HA330B958B9034715809579F2EA9F7C2A"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The table of sections at the beginning of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/63">chapter 63</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new item:</text>
