<section id="HC4F15AD02E1241B7A58E6941A4253448" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Justice Served Act of 2018</short-title></quote>.</text></section> <section id="HE4D02263D11E4637AFF05DB7C64513BC"><enum>2.</enum><header>Prosecution of DNA cold cases</header> <subsection id="HDDA26C131E7047B088D92BEDC3803B88"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Debbie smith DNA backlog grant program</header><text>Section 2 of the DNA Analysis Backlog Elimination Act of 2000 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/40701">34 U.S.C. 40701</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H3506BE2C714441A8A6C7AC552DFE86AA"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (a), by adding at the end the following:</text> <quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H3C0DFF5CBDA742BC83B9D3A3BC15465F" style="OLC"> <paragraph id="H86792A7DE48544D3B21B313F7747A118"><enum>(9)</enum><text>To increase the capacity of State and local prosecution offices to address the backlog of violent crime cases in which suspects have been identified through DNA evidence.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HE65E03D9B13E41538014692C78915EC1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (c), by adding at the end the following:</text> <quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H9416C6E4075A4AEC900CF4330E27082B" style="OLC"> <paragraph id="HF37E6BB338C148CCB64DE626A3EE0CA3"><enum>(5)</enum><header>Allocation of grant awards for prosecutors</header><text>For each fiscal year, not less than 5 percent, but not more than 7 percent, of the grant amounts distributed under paragraph (1) shall, if sufficient applications to justify such amounts are received by the Attorney General, be awarded for purposes described in subsection (a)(9), provided that none of the funds required to be distributed under this paragraph shall decrease or otherwise limit the availability of funds required to be awarded to States or units of local government under paragraph (3).</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="H04526F1942D744B7B5CCAC2893E3A8AD"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Prosecution of cold cases</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Of the amounts made available to the Attorney General for a DNA Analysis and capacity enhancement program and for other local, State, and Federal forensic activities for the purpose described in section 2 of the DNA Analysis Backlog Elimination Act of 2000 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/34/40701">34 U.S.C. 40701</external-xref>) under the heading <quote><header-in-text level="appropriations-small" style="appropriations">State and local law enforcement assistance</header-in-text></quote> under the heading <quote><header-in-text level="appropriations-intermediate" style="appropriations">Office of Justice Programs</header-in-text></quote> under the heading <quote><header-in-text level="appropriations-major" style="appropriations">Department of Justice</header-in-text></quote> in fiscal years 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, not less than 5 percent, but not more than 7 percent, of such amounts shall be provided for grants for prosecutors to increase the capacity of State and local prosecution offices to address cold cases involving violent crime, where suspects have been identified through DNA evidence.</text></subsection></section> </legis-body> <attestation><attestation-group><attestation-date date="20180515" chamber="House">Passed the House of Representatives May 15, 2018.</attestation-date><attestor display="no">Karen L.
