 <section changed="deleted" committee-id="SSEG00" id="H7E08F0B294AC470DAA0D4642B6B92EAA" reported-display-style="strikethrough" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Medgar Evers House Study Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section changed="deleted" committee-id="SSEG00" id="HC5E75321A3894A9C9E60EDD84F9AA19D" reported-display-style="strikethrough"><enum>2.</enum><header>Special resource study</header> <subsection id="H639FB1439F2A457083100A34F6E447CA"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Study</header><text>The Secretary of the Interior (referred to in this section as the <quote>Secretary</quote>) shall conduct a special resource study of the home of the late civil rights activist Medgar Evers, located at 2332 Margaret Walker Alexander Drive in Jackson, Mississippi.</text>
 </subsection><subsection id="H09C7A2B2438041F084AA15279CB5442F"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Contents</header><text>In conducting the study under subsection (a), the Secretary shall—</text> <paragraph id="HFCAE3DE2A41E48C1A7192FBC29FBCBB4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>evaluate the national significance of the site;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HF85AE4AA626E42F498219DBE8E30F20D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>determine the suitability and feasibility of designating the site as a unit of the National Park System;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HDAE622E93ED04393846E6B72472BC2E3"><enum>(3)</enum><text>consider other alternatives for preservation, protection, and interpretation of the site by Federal, State, or local governmental entities, or private and nonprofit organizations;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HE443840CC6B44DFFA61C94581C16A76D"><enum>(4)</enum><text>consult with interested Federal, State, or local governmental entities, private and nonprofit organizations or any other interested individuals;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HE7EB42A383A642828396C6F603BA5B4F"><enum>(5)</enum><text>determine the effect of the designation of the site as a unit of the National Park System on existing commercial and recreational uses, and the effect on State and local governments to manage those activities;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H8ACF6A3BB2F747C7B11DA7BBD0B791A6"><enum>(6)</enum><text>identify any authorities, including condemnation, that will compel or permit the Secretary to influence or participate in local land use decisions (such as zoning) or place restrictions on non-Federal land if the site is designated a unit of the National Park System; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HA2CD4C6D350343B49B930ECE0E108856"><enum>(7)</enum><text>identify cost estimates for any Federal acquisition, development, interpretation, operation, and maintenance associated with the alternatives.</text>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HCC1A1E373DC4411BA1BC41B5050013DA"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Applicable law</header><text>The study required under subsection (a) shall be conducted in accordance with section 100507 of title 54, United States Code.</text>
 </subsection><subsection id="HFBEF28BBFA1F441A8428471CD39C1504"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Study results</header><text>Not later than 3 years after the date on which funds are first made available for the study under subsection (a), the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Natural Resources of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate the results of the study and any conclusions and recommendations of the Secretary.</text></subsection></section></legis-body>

 <section changed="added" committee-id="SSEG00" id="id5575ffc7-eeba-4c86-b90f-dbbc85e706f5" reported-display-style="italic" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Medgar Evers House Study Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section changed="added" committee-id="SSEG00" id="id6EBF0B8207D04EEC92A0D9D739EDAECD" reported-display-style="italic"><enum>2.</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">In this Act:</text>
 <paragraph id="idCAEDE870649940A5847DFF617D316000"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Secretary</header><text>The term <quote>Secretary</quote> means the Secretary of the Interior.</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="id8A852669900644F6B878E2ADBCD552B1"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Study area</header><text>The term <quote>study area</quote> means the home of the late civil rights activist Medgar Evers, located at 2332 Margaret Walker Alexander Drive in Jackson, Mississippi.</text>
			</paragraph></section><section changed="added" commented="no" committee-id="SSEG00" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="id389521a7-4d6c-44d4-b06e-80f5284273ef" reported-display-style="italic" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>3.</enum><header>Special resource study</header>
 <subsection id="iddd5f773e37c54369b63760bd64447608"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Study</header><text>The Secretary shall conduct a special resource study of the study area.</text> </subsection><subsection id="id7984f2c9f6964c0fabe5bc67e656d1bc"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Contents</header><text>In conducting the study under subsection (a), the Secretary shall—</text>
 <paragraph id="idc75e69aabeb5434eaed16e61b76a58e2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>evaluate the national significance of the study area;</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="idb30b39d16d21452d95e1a9f1b9f012a5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>determine the suitability and feasibility of designating the study area as a unit of the National Park System;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="idb62efa4908b5492faa3e806dafa3ade4"><enum>(3)</enum><text>consider other alternatives for preservation, protection, and interpretation of the study area by the Federal Government, State or local government entities, or private and nonprofit organizations;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="id2fb6a9e1e29643efbf8a0c7b37ee42c9"><enum>(4)</enum><text>consult with interested Federal agencies, State or local governmental entities, private and nonprofit organizations, or any other interested individuals; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="idaa0ce1b257fe479c930bd08097ab05ba"><enum>(5)</enum><text>identify cost estimates for any Federal acquisition, development, interpretation, operation, and maintenance associated with the alternatives.</text>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="idedb7f1d3eaa5499ba3489bcf4c52b167"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Applicable law</header><text>The study required under subsection (a) shall be conducted in accordance with section 100507 of title 54, United States Code.</text>
 </subsection><subsection id="id6b4c5a7350ed403c8a81c3fbeb441f16"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not later than 3 years after the date on which funds are first made available for the study under subsection (a), the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Natural Resources of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate a report that describes—</text>
 <paragraph id="id93efbfd8de1845baa3b0271e43ecb45e"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the results of the study; and</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="id474ef096c25e40d09ab091453c791277"><enum>(2)</enum><text>any conclusions and recommendations of the Secretary.</text></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body><endorsement><action-date>May 9, 2017</action-date><action-desc>Reported with an amendment</action-desc></endorsement></bill>
