			 identity protection personal identification numbers with respect to
			 identity theft-related tax fraud.</official-title></form>

 <section id="HA5AB9EA724FD4D95AB623920ED4C3A36" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Taxpayer Identity Theft Protection Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="H7003D77E3C8647898C29BE65370FCB39"><enum>2.</enum><header>Identity protection personal identification numbers</header> <subsection id="H08C2B091123F4D74A4230ACDBC12656D"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/6109">Section 6109</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HD8985DFD8BD741689850A5A00E2D010D" style="OLC">
					<subsection id="H4B9E92CC99C14593AAB55FAEE65B2340"><enum>(j)</enum><header>Use of IP PINs</header>
 <paragraph id="H5FC810A5CCDA4BC69532F15312904C34"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>At the request of any individual, the Secretary shall, after the individual’s true identity has been established and verified, issue an identity protection personal identification number to such individual, and such number shall be used as the identifying number for such individual for purposes of this title.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HF0498E0FE4894251BED7E1C61C16F057"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Identity protection personal identification number defined</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For purposes of paragraph (1), an identity protection personal identification number is a number assigned by the Secretary to a taxpayer to help prevent the misuse of the Social Security account number of the taxpayer on fraudulent Federal income tax returns.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
 </subsection><subsection id="HA1AF2DE5F69D4AC08942EA0A59B1B861"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming amendment</header><text>Section 6109(d) of such Code is amended by inserting <quote>provided by subsection (j) or as</quote> after <quote>except as</quote>.</text> </subsection><subsection id="HED1D5DA9C7804736856D3EF849327A12"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Publicity of IP PIN availability</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of the Treasury, or the Secretary’s delegate, shall publicize the availability of the use of identity protection personal identification numbers pursuant to <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/6109">section 6109(j)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, including through electronic means.</text>
 </subsection><subsection id="H8B205BDF2F044FA59E1F2EB4ABE46430"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to requests made after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
