			 make electric infrastructure more resilient to hurricanes, tornadoes, and
			 other major weather-related events.</official-title></form>
	<legis-body id="H2FD60D3BFFAA48E3B3AF0EFA1D63FD6B" style="OLC">
 <section id="HA3CC57BDE4164889BCF0372ED05FA13B" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as <quote><short-title>The Uniform Federal Grants for Resilient Infrastructure and Design Act of 2017</short-title></quote> or <quote><short-title>TUFGRID Act of 2017</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section id="H9D74AD1DA8FF470E8647A1780413FC91"><enum>2.</enum><header>Grant program</header> <subsection id="H72DB6E88916D4E829D7FA08370A81FB9"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Establishment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Energy shall establish and carry out a program to provide grants to States, local governments, and electric utilities to make electric infrastructure more resilient to hurricanes, tornadoes, and other major weather-related events.</text>
 </subsection><subsection id="H0CE579156FE24B09920E939F36B76E57"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Use of grants</header><text>Grants provided pursuant to the program established under subsection (a) may be used to—</text> <paragraph id="H5F175E86DDD2457781618E85250CCE37"><enum>(1)</enum><text>relocate electric distribution power lines and facilities from above ground to underground;</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H61174B96102A4603A300137A87F06297"><enum>(2)</enum><text>replace wooden electric distribution poles with metal, composite, or concrete electric distribution poles; or</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H0A65823819C6439596CE00BB70004438"><enum>(3)</enum><text>any other use the Secretary considers appropriate to make electric infrastructure more resilient to hurricanes, tornadoes, and other major weather-related events.</text>
 </paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H394DB935762C45EDA444E84F1C6E48BB"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Priority</header><text>In providing grants under the program established under subsection (a), the Secretary shall give priority to States, local governments, and electric utilities that serve areas that are, as determined by the Secretary, historically prone to hurricanes, tornadoes, or other major weather-related events.</text>
 </subsection><subsection id="H063E2D75918140C292691D6416F52EF5"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Federal share</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Federal share of the costs of a project or activity carried out using a grant provided under the program established under subsection (a) may not exceed 50 percent.</text>
