			 decennial census of population shall contain an option for respondents to
			 indicate citizenship status or lawful presence in the United States, and
			 for other purposes.</official-title></form>
	<legis-body id="H6B17B340042F41E6B133BB7225F61528" style="OLC">
 <section id="H481AAD594CF24654A7D96D6CD94C0A2B" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Census Accuracy Act of 2017</short-title></quote> .</text> </section><section id="H0057A18C4C6E425AA52B03DD6EDDFFBD"><enum>2.</enum><header>Citizenship or lawful presence status on census questionnaires</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 141 of title 13, United States Code, is amended—</text>
 <paragraph id="HA519B9538ECE4C4B936F67DAD26EAE1F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating subsection (g) as subsection (h); and</text> </paragraph><paragraph id="HBE3D16438B7C49F9934C76C94F9C0270"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after subsection (f) the following:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFFE8642CD32D4726961B1F9831FEEEE4" style="USC">
 <subsection id="H64B5FA05963C4BF095CB9A97DED32E75"><enum>(g)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In conducting the 2020 decennial census and each decennial census thereafter, the Secretary shall include in any questionnaire distributed or otherwise used for the purpose of determining the total population by States—</text>
 <paragraph id="HAF12A0D0FBD9460498FCE1602C6CD870"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a checkbox or other similar option for respondents to indicate whether the respondent is a citizen or national of the United States, is lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United State, is an alien who otherwise has lawful status under the immigration laws, or none of these; and</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HD122FEF6CE9C4449871932B37911A974"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in connection with the option relating to status under the immigration laws, a question regarding which Federal program or provision of law accorded the respondent such status.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
