			 that may be exempted for the development of new vehicle safety features,
			 and for other purposes.</official-title></form>
	<legis-body id="HBABF9EE960F940A2BCFCD43FD198D965" style="OLC">
 <section id="HC2CF6E0E1A384BE7AEC88531046C13F6" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Practical Automated Vehicle Exemptions Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote>PAVE Act</quote>.</text> </section><section id="H01A28F7B635D4871A5D4B89025E9C019"><enum>2.</enum><header>Amendment</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 30113 of title 49, United States Code, is amended—</text>
 <paragraph id="H1ECFC891D86E4345ACA68C2367BFBE43"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (d), by striking <quote>A manufacturer is eligible</quote> and all that follows and inserting the following:</text> <quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H51CA61EFAC2843F79D3F43FC7ABC6542" style="USC"> <paragraph id="HF7F850A11C5B4A439D8AF7233A5D602A"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Eligibility under subsection <enum-in-header>(b)(3)(B)(i)</enum-in-header></header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A manufacturer is eligible for an exemption under subsection (b)(3)(B)(i) of this section (including an exemption under subsection (b)(3)(B)(i) relating to a bumper standard referred to in subsection (b)(1)) only if the Secretary determines that the manufacturer’s total motor vehicle production in the most recent year of production is not more than 10,000.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H9F6CBC7417484985A1FACCCAC7AF92C0"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Eligibility under subsection <enum-in-header>(b)(3)(B)(iii)</enum-in-header></header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A manufacturer is eligible for an exemption under subsection (b)(3)(B)(iii) of this section only if the Secretary determines the exemption is for not more than 2,500 vehicles to be sold in the United States in any 12-month period.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H842EAEC786D64D2C8FD459306C7B20B8"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Eligibility under subsection <enum-in-header>(b)(3)(B)(ii), (iv),</enum-in-header> or <enum-in-header>(v)</enum-in-header></header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A manufacturer is eligible for an exemption under subsection (b)(3)(B)(ii), (iv), or (v) of this section only if the Secretary determines the exemption is for not more than 100,000 vehicles per manufacturer to be sold, leased, or otherwise introduced into commerce in the United States in any 12-month period.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H6520E718310C41E0BE44BE5847A44F74"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Limitation on Number of Vehicles Exempted</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">All exemptions granted to a manufacturer under subsections (b)(3)(B)(i) through (v) shall not exceed a total of (i) 25,000 vehicles manufactured within the first 12-month period, (ii) 50,000 vehicles manufactured within the second 12-month period, (iii) 100,000 vehicles manufactured within the third 12-month period, and, (iv) 100,000 vehicles manufactured within the fourth 12-month period. Any renewals under subsections (b)(3)(B)(i) through (v) shall not exceed a total of 100,000 vehicles manufactured within a 12-month period.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HBBE85115A60F47CFA5BB49A6D591054A"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in subsection (e), by striking <quote>An exemption or renewal</quote> and all that follows and inserting the following:</text> <quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HEBB9A1E9FD9E40B9941269F11F76B5EA" style="OLC"> <paragraph id="H00E106F299124D2B829C1446FFC562C8"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Exemption under subsection <enum-in-header>(b)(3)(B)(i)</enum-in-header></header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">An exemption or renewal under subsection (b)(3)(B)(i) of this section may be granted for not more than 3 years.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H8E2C828DA5E64551A24B1BD7648C5877"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Exemption under subsection <enum-in-header>(b)(3)(B)(iii)</enum-in-header></header><text>An exemption or renewal under subsection (b)(3)(B)(iii) this section may be granted for not more than 2 years.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HED753938C5F4421D84C1B64C25C3C3D6"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Exemption Under Subsection <enum-in-header>(b)(3)(B)(ii), (iv),</enum-in-header> or <enum-in-header>(v)</enum-in-header></header><text>An exemption or renewal under subsection (b)(3)(B)(ii), (iv), or (v) of this section may be granted for not more than 4 years.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
