			 modernizing the electric grid, and for other purposes.</official-title></form>

		<section id="H3401476D528242D1871245342BB11129" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Voluntary model pathways</header>
			<subsection id="H2A87D0BBB68B4677B026D71CC5D2B114"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Establishment of voluntary model pathways</header>
 <paragraph id="HD76DDCE9B2D0446E9F4EB25CB30E0A9F"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Establishment</header><text>Not later than 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall initiate the development of voluntary model pathways for modernizing the electric grid through a collaborative, public-private effort that—</text>
 <subparagraph id="H77FD8C2B253F47CBB5598055440A8B2A"><enum>(A)</enum><text>produces illustrative policy pathways that can be adapted for State and regional applications by regulators and policymakers;</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H9548C23D23324EF08BBA59E8496D1730"><enum>(B)</enum><text>facilitates the modernization of the electric grid to achieve the objectives described in paragraph (2);</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H97353D6BEC87414C9D0D616C8B55E794"><enum>(C)</enum><text>ensures a reliable, resilient, affordable, safe, and secure electric system; and</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H6E0DCA93608E492286B263D9CB3C2478"><enum>(D)</enum><text>acknowledges and provides for different priorities, electric systems, and rate structures across States and regions.</text>
 </subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H614614448B9D4A5A9E09A193C7E1CEF5"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Objectives</header><text>The pathways established under paragraph (1) shall facilitate achievement of the following objectives:</text>
 <subparagraph id="HC6E3F336480D4D1AA73A609222595F56"><enum>(A)</enum><text>Near real-time situational awareness of the electric system.</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H58555D7A235B4519B92AA4814879D405"><enum>(B)</enum><text>Data visualization.</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="HAA53A016F9A6474A9FD1F93AA586CC2F"><enum>(C)</enum><text>Advanced monitoring and control of the advanced electric grid.</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph id="HAC4E85A7E2D442BBA79E75AFB6174631"><enum>(D)</enum><text>Enhanced certainty for private investment in the electric system.</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H6A923973328441E2A3FC675F0A684729"><enum>(E)</enum><text>Increased innovation.</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph id="HA64D2DA5BE8B4AC881D5AF3C4CB3E2CE"><enum>(F)</enum><text>Greater consumer empowerment.</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H0CB430D647B848228BAFB47985566E4E"><enum>(G)</enum><text>Enhanced grid resilience, reliability, and robustness.</text> </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H08B9C0EF7ED64D0E9D70E8F43EAD1B66"><enum>(H)</enum><text>Improved—</text>
 <clause id="H2C7C0C377D2A43D9888A6EEA1BF471E6"><enum>(i)</enum><text>integration of distributed energy resources;</text> </clause><clause id="H9BCDB45C66B94486865199E8E4ECC768"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>interoperability of the electric system; and</text>
 </clause><clause id="H74C12FA3257E405C90AA63877E07DC9B"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>predictive modeling and capacity forecasting.</text> </clause></subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="HA99EEC484719439BAF1895B09D938C34"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Steering committee</header><text>Not later than 90 days after the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall establish a steering committee to facilitate the development of the pathways under paragraph (1), to be composed of members appointed by the Secretary, consisting of persons with appropriate expertise representing a diverse range of interests in the public, private, and academic sectors, including representatives of—</text>
 <subparagraph id="HDE15B0AB11634B5F8BA970BA3295BC4A"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the Smart Grid Task Force established under section 1303 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/17383">42 U.S.C. 17383</external-xref>); and</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H80442099A08D4DBAB404755E56B7A828"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">the Smart Grid Advisory Committee established under section 1303 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/17383">42 U.S.C. 17383</external-xref>).</text>
 </subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HFAFF2B4884A245B4A6FDD0C7AF5BA2E4"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Technical assistance</header><text>The Secretary may provide technical assistance to States, Indian tribes, or units of local government to adopt one or more elements of the pathways developed under subsection (a)(1).</text>
 </subsection><subsection commented="no" id="H0C2F921679EC4FEB83110C7A12EC677E"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Definition of Secretary</header><text>In this section, the term <term>Secretary</term> means the Secretary of Energy.</text> </subsection></section></legis-body></bill>
