			 to certain veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart and to their
			 dependents.</official-title></form>
	<legis-body id="H51E79192E59A4DB9AC7207D469AEE5D6" style="OLC">
 <section id="HDE10C0D8C66348C9BE8FB9166E081A1A" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Purple Heart Heroes Act of 2017</short-title></quote>.</text> </section><section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H858164B0D2DE41C0A47E76BEEF5DFD3D" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Commissary and exchange store privileges for certain veterans who have been awarded the Purple Heart and their dependents</header> <subsection id="H1FBF5D766665424BB3D0B43F3D27A95C"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Extension of privileges</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/10/54">Chapter 54</external-xref> of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section:</text>

					<section id="H6A6CA52F42F146CABC2DC57E289C4864"><enum>1065.</enum><header>Use of commissary and MWR retail facilities: Purple Heart veterans and their dependents</header>
 <subsection id="HA261A31EED314592A6200CE756B90693"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Eligibility of Purple Heart veterans</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A Purple Heart veteran shall be permitted to use commissary stores and MWR retail facilities on the same basis as a member of the armed forces entitled to retired or retainer pay.</text>
 </subsection><subsection id="H2368C5D607CE47739A4946FC47B5DF1F"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Eligibility of Dependents</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A dependent of a Purple Heart veteran shall be permitted to use commissary and MWR retail facilities on the same basis as a dependent of a member of the armed forces entitled to retired or retainer pay.</text>
 </subsection><subsection id="H621BEE87A5324B89803E877C24B9BFFD"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text> <paragraph id="HDBFAB6F4351B4A959CA4465ADA61F70C"><enum>(1)</enum><text>The term <term>MWR retail facilities</term> has the meaning given that term in section 1063(e) of this title.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="HA4E390F4952A4DF898BDB37CCDFAD318"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>Purple Heart veteran</quote> means a veteran who has a disability that—</text> <subparagraph id="H86AEBEC057CD49CDA8F2CDCCA5AE07CE"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">is attributable to an injury for which the veteran was awarded the Purple Heart; and</text>
 </subparagraph><subparagraph id="H4CBC11A292114FDF8C602D1E0D94FA75"><enum>(B)</enum><text>is compensable under the laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.</text> </subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H282B297A425C4F02B2B5441BDA26A04F"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The term <term>veteran</term> has the meaning given that term in section 101 of title 38.</text></paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
 </subsection><subsection id="H78E6F1A8683A48088947520F718D151D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The table of sections at the beginning of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/10/54">chapter 54</external-xref> of title 10, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new item:</text>

 </subsection><subsection id="H95C69A71E3A8429298AA16446AC8D2E6"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>Section 1065 of title 10, United States Code, as added by subsection (a), shall take effect at the end of the 90-day period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
