<official-title display="yes">To require a new or updated Federal website that is intended for use by the public to be mobile friendly, and for other purposes.</official-title>

<section id="H89C9E4DAC9F74E9CA62BCDC7D932A94B" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Connected Government Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section> <section id="H2172EACBEB2C45CD9D8C26CB446C5A9E"><enum>2.</enum><header>Federal websites required to be mobile friendly</header> <subsection id="HFD745ED5D76541769987CFA38F0C6769"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subchapter II of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/44/35">chapter 35</external-xref> of title 44, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section:</text>

<section id="HB2B88DC88B854C0696744B2E84377DC2"><enum>3559.</enum><header>Federal websites required to be mobile friendly</header> 
<subsection id="HD53BBE4A6FD94AF9A40AB94E7841F506"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">If, on or after the date that is 180 days after the date of the enactment of this section, an agency creates a website that is intended for use by the public or conducts a redesign of an existing legacy website that is intended for use by the public, the agency shall ensure to the greatest extent practicable that the website is mobile friendly.</text></subsection> <subsection id="HB5CF6445D1B84D628BB0F5FFCB1641B5"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section:</text> 
<paragraph id="H758F1091748940E0AC82C24192E6BB4D"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Agency</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <quote>agency</quote> has the meaning given that term in section 551 of title 5.</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H8469210A125C4985B040E45A5D2018DB"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Mobile friendly</header><text>The term <quote>mobile friendly</quote> means, with respect to a website, that the website is configured in such a way that the website may be navigated, viewed, and accessed on a smartphone, tablet computer, or similar mobile device.</text></paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> 
<subsection id="HC40CEC10A4224435ABAF33DA4C4C6E32"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Technical and conforming amendment</header><text>The table of sections at the beginning of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/44/35">chapter 35</external-xref> of title 44, United States Code, is amended by adding after the item related to section 3558 the following new item:</text> <quoted-block style="USC" id="HA53060A570964AC68C7F0BADBAA8209F" display-inline="no-display-inline"> <toc regeneration="no-regeneration"> <toc-entry level="item">3559. Federal websites required to be mobile friendly.</toc-entry></toc><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> <subsection id="H4DE189D0193A4BEB82A5955B4A49C36B"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Report by OMB and GSA required</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 18 months after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, in consultation with the Administrator of General Services, shall make publicly available and submit to Congress a report that—</text> 
<paragraph id="H6C571253755B455C85A0B38B747F46C1"><enum>(1)</enum><text>describes the implementation of the requirement described under section 3559 of title 44, United States Code, as added by subsection (a); and</text></paragraph> <paragraph id="H7B9D274793594FF895E12F199EA9F46D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>assesses the compliance of each agency with such requirement.</text> </paragraph></subsection></section>
