		<section id="idFB2109AD174142A4A64166442BF5D23E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Atomic Veterans Service Medal</header>
 <subsection id="HC8242A9AD50947B586366673A6F6E57E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Service medal required</header><text>The Secretary of Defense shall design and produce a military service medal, to be known as the <quote>Atomic Veterans Service Medal</quote>, to honor retired and former members of the Armed Forces who are radiation-exposed veterans (as such term is defined in section 1112(c)(3) of title 38, United States Code).</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H98E02E6597B54555A5CCB23150B8EE42"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Distribution of medal</header>
 <paragraph id="HCA26C5A19A1A4D7EAD3F4BC4FDAC131A"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Issuance to retired and former members</header><text>At the request of a radiation-exposed veteran, the Secretary of Defense shall issue the Atomic Veterans Service Medal to the veteran.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H0C216DF378B646ED8CD32509FCEB7A3A"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Issuance to next-of-kin</header><text>In the case of a radiation-exposed veteran who is deceased, the Secretary may provide for issuance of the Atomic Veterans Service Medal to the next-of-kin of the person.</text>
 </paragraph><paragraph id="H22C37F4B05154B8C827E09BAB159DF3B"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Application</header><text>The Secretary shall prepare and disseminate as appropriate an application by which radiation-exposed veterans and their next-of-kin may apply to receive the Atomic Veterans Service Medal.</text>
