		<official-title>To require the Secretary of Transportation to establish new standards for automobile hoods and
			 bumpers to reduce pedestrian injuries, and for other purposes.</official-title>

	<legis-body><section id="id50DCC1EDD5EE41099E2621468825A0C3" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Pedestrian Safety Act of 2014</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="id7C3EA75173174F9982D8F510BC8AB62A" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Motor vehicle pedestrian protection</header><subsection id="id7a9ff6063c8d48a2a557384eb24646b3"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Rulemaking</header><text>Not later than 2 years after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of
			 Transportation, through the Administrator of the National Highway Traffic
			 Safety Administration, 
			 shall	issue a final rule that—</text><paragraph id="idE36ACB33A7B04C1AB08B764DD67B1A47"><enum>(1)</enum><text>establishes standards for the hood and bumper
			 areas of motor vehicles, including	passenger cars,
			 multipurpose passenger vehicles, trucks, and buses with a gross vehicle
			 weight rating of 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or less, in order to
			 reduce the number
			 of injuries and fatalities suffered by pedestrians who are struck by such
			 vehicles; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id18E62DB17B024DB18369EE0E9B1EFBA7"><enum>(2)</enum><text>considers protection of vulnerable pedestrian populations, including children and
			 older adults.</text></paragraph></subsection></section><section id="id97e34479542444b2b4b8443589808a1b"><enum>3.</enum><header>Pedestrian safety roadway improvements</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/23/120">Section 120(c)(1)</external-xref> of title 23, United States Code, is amended—</text><paragraph id="id95AD9F4E7C1D4E6D8C2250EC88346391"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by inserting <quote>including pedestrian hybrid beacons,</quote> after <quote>traffic control signalization,</quote>; and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="id4eb5affa19ed4399a502d527a7550bdc"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting <quote>roadway improvements that provide separation between pedestrians and motor vehicles, including
			 pedestrian sidewalks and crossing islands,</quote> after <quote>safety rest areas,</quote>.</text>
			</paragraph></section><section id="id026DFDD240AA49EF918F71385F4EA936"><enum>4.</enum><header>Inclusion of safety advertising campaigns in highway safety improvement projects</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/23/148">Section 148(a)(4)(B)</external-xref> of title 23, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the
			 following:</text><quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idA7906F45CEC146EAAD11194F1FB3CADA" style="OLC"><clause id="id49C497FB0C7D48D1AB3F223CB865E11E"><enum>(xxv)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Safety public awareness campaigns.</text></clause><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section></legis-body>
