<official-title>To amend <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/5/552a">section 552a</external-xref> of title 5, United States Code, to unequivocally authorize an award of provable damages, including damages that are not pecuniary damages.</official-title>

<section id="H2990405C6D334C3698FA36FEF5F93E32" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Safeguarding Individual Privacy Against Government Invasion Act of 2014</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="HAD33C014770D42389B7D7DE75113C11E"><enum>2.</enum><header>Civil remedies under the Privacy Act</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/5/552a">Section 552a(g)(4)(A)</external-xref> of title 5, United States Code, is amended—</text> 
<subsection id="HEBC7DD5F6B4A4833AD26066515A02D92"><enum>(a)</enum><text>by striking <quote>actual damages</quote> and inserting <quote>provable damages, including damages that are not pecuniary damages,</quote>; and</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HAD0FE83D10914F47AD6BF31BC3A63FFE"><enum>(b)</enum><text>by striking <quote>, but in no case shall a person entitled to recovery receive less than the sum of $1,000</quote> and inserting <quote>or the sum of $1,000, whichever is greater</quote>.</text></subsection></section>
