<section id="HE097F1A90107419CBEA6422BBE44351D" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Responsible Body Armor Possession Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H01947730362F427B919738AADFE7F99B"><enum>2.</enum><header>Ban on purchase, ownership, or possession of enhanced body armor by civilians; exceptions</header> 
<subsection id="H62D92379B93745DE9701768AF655C1F9"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/44">Chapter 44</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text> 
<quoted-block style="USC" id="H4C312F87BF38402E8E6EC708FB33C554" display-inline="no-display-inline"> 
<section id="H8CD3486E0273471DBCA102827B3DB7BC"><enum>932.</enum><header>Ban on purchase, ownership, or possession of enhanced body armor by civilians</header> 
<subsection id="H9C7C97B5D3464B9FA4BE6A2C10B416F9"><enum>(a)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Except as provided in subsection (b), it shall be unlawful for a person to purchase, own, or possess enhanced body armor.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HF59352A1241749DCAB7AB5A4C501E324"><enum>(b)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subsection (a) shall not apply to—</text> 
<paragraph id="HFA01A6E7EA1F4CC2BFFCB11A96ADC7D6"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a purchase, ownership, or possession by or under the authority of—</text> 
<subparagraph id="HF07B8723A82F4A60814E2E629D45C744"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the United States or any department or agency of the United States; or</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HD882260F129047E6960F89E3BC547627"><enum>(B)</enum><text>a State, or a department, agency, or political subdivision of a State; or</text></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H7EE396043C0447E1976BF55BE7C026D1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>enhanced body armor that was lawfully possessed by any person at any time before the date this section takes effect. </text></paragraph></subsection> </section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> 
<subsection id="H3BDB9072E7254E0CB212069F50ABB045"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Enhanced body armor defined</header><text>Section 921(a) of such title is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

<paragraph id="H6BF38712682741B08C45AC9FBF5A7648" indent="up1"><enum>(36)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>enhanced body armor</term> means body armor, including a helmet or shield, the ballistic resistance of which meets or exceeds the ballistic performance of Type III armor, determined using National Institute of Justice Standard–0101.06.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> 
<subsection id="HDE27A72871D04EF8B942804966B514D0"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Penalties</header><text>Section 924(a) of such title is amended by adding at the end the following:</text> 
<quoted-block style="OLC" id="H7A9501E0E7CA450BA41D33F0E53F2339" display-inline="no-display-inline"> 
<paragraph id="H4F9F22C2AECB43A3AD9E9CCAC3293BF5" indent="up1"><enum>(8)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whoever knowingly violates section 932 shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </subsection></section>
