<official-title>To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to allow Federal law enforcement officers and firefighters to make penalty-free withdrawals from governmental plans after age 50.</official-title>

<section id="H1E9C323DCD3447689C880E85779DE631" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Early retirement distributions to Federal law enforcement officers and firefighters in governmental plans</header> 
<subsection id="HA879E93746024393A651E2016FFB9DA0"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subparagraph (B) of <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/72">section 72(t)(10)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H071668E9F4244E5AA9CC12E9EEFAB1E4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>, or</quote>, </text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H97B84346837A452E9A894B44267DF3B5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking <quote>means any employee</quote> and inserting the following: </text> 
<quoted-block style="OLC" id="H300EECE428F24690A0537754702F43E2" display-inline="yes-display-inline"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">means—</text> 
<clause id="HE9E6383AEEAE41C8A3B18803BAC7392B"><enum>(i)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">any employee</text></clause><after-quoted-block>, and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HA42CBF3CF7304A58B29422109E01C854"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new clause:</text> 
<quoted-block style="OLC" id="H514855BE7C6B476CB8CFBC723E8F0281" display-inline="no-display-inline"> 
<clause id="H1704CB300270404587D06705A0EE0FBE"><enum>(ii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">any Federal law enforcement officer described in section <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/5/8331">8331(20)</external-xref> or <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/5/8401">8401(17)</external-xref> of title 5, United States Code, any Federal customs and border protection officer described in section 8331(31) or 8401(36) of such title, or any Federal firefighter described in section 8331(21) or 8401(14) of such title.</text></clause><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="HCCCFBE6BE1154EB2B1A13653EAE8693B"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Application to defined contribution plans</header><text>Subparagraph (A) of section 72(t)(10) of such Code is amended by striking <quote>which is a defined benefit plan</quote>.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="H400F243E62F94F99A864E15218EACAAC"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to distributions after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text> </subsection></section>
