		<section id="H82026205EA3F478786A3328A91419E89" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Suicide Prevention Research INnovaTion Act</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>SPRINT Act</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HFC0A3B9261C94E16B1133061B0F53FB9"><enum>2.</enum><header>Suicide prevention and brain research</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Subpart 16 of part C of title IV of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/285p">42 U.S.C. 285p et seq.</external-xref>) is
			 amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

				<section id="H9679AE46DA034833B079AFB2ADF2E09C"><enum>464U–1.</enum><header>Suicide prevention and brain research</header>
					<subsection id="H794A028A637C4741ADFF4A1115EAA0A4"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>The Director of the National Institute of Mental Health shall use the funds made available to such
			 Institute pursuant to subsection (b) exclusively for the purpose of
			 conducting and supporting—</text>
						<paragraph id="H26D6A5D5D87C4C9C9D4477E23F66E8F4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>research on the determinants of self-directed and other violence associated with mental illness,
			 including studies designed to reduce the risk of self-harm, suicide, and
			 interpersonal violence, especially in rural communities with a shortage of
			 mental health services; and</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph id="HAF99A34033A647E1AD2D3C6CFFDAA629"><enum>(2)</enum><text>brain research through the Brain Research Through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN)
			 Initiative.</text>
						</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H9A039B30F9EE46B18B7B08D330660458"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations</header><text>In addition to amounts otherwise made available to the National Institute of Mental Health,
			 including amounts appropriated pursuant to section 402A(a), there are
			 authorized to be appropriated to such Institute $40,000,000 for each of
			 fiscal years 2015 through 2019 to carry out this section.</text></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
