<official-title display="yes">To amend title XII of the Public Health Service Act to expand the definition of trauma to include thermal, electrical, chemical, radioactive, and other extrinsic agents.</official-title>

<section id="H5F2300FE1D38415192503645D8CCF12B" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Improving Trauma Care Act of 2014</short-title></quote>.</text> </section> 
<section id="H904C5EA91D7A4CDAAE102D8121054F45"><enum>2.</enum><header>Trauma definition</header> 
<subsection id="HC4D75C43A7C0437095F9E9D385B3B5F7"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Revised definition under trauma systems grants programs</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Paragraph (4) of section 1231 of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/300d-31">42 U.S.C. 300d–31</external-xref>) is amended to read as follows:</text>

<paragraph id="H274C828249884037BE3085EEA5C39EF0"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Trauma</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>trauma</term> means an injury resulting from exposure to—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H7F52F48E964747ECA5F8291F24A76997"><enum>(A)</enum><text>a mechanical force; or</text> </subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H5C6BA986447D4BB4B7F17715B1CC149F"><enum>(B)</enum><text>another extrinsic agent, including an extrinsic agent that is thermal, electrical, chemical, or radioactive.</text></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </subsection> 
<subsection id="HC84075952011482F9947D300103C1AA0"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Revised definition under interagency program for trauma research</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Paragraph (3) of section 1261(h) of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/300d-61">42 U.S.C. 300d–61(h)</external-xref>) is amended to read as follows:</text>
