<official-title>To amend the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act to provide surviving spouses with certain protections relating to mortgages and mortgage foreclosures, and for other purposes.</official-title>

<section id="H959167443C12458DBA6D983FB2BEC2B3" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Expansion of protections relating to mortgages and mortgage foreclosures for surviving spouses</header> 
<subsection id="H896E662B39C149DEB8E1B7431EE7A725"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Protection for Surviving Spouse</header><text>Section 303 of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc-appendix" parsable-cite="usc-appendix/50/533">50 U.S.C. App. 533</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following new subsection:</text>

<subsection id="H9EC5C7ADFE764A0296121CADBE6B959D"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Protection for Surviving Spouse</header><text>During the five-year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this subsection, with respect to a servicemember who dies while in military service and whose death is service-connected, this section shall apply to the surviving spouse of the servicemember if such spouse is the successor in interest to property covered under subsection (a).</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> 
<subsection id="HD7E26DEC34FD4EB695E76A74484BB3B8"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>Subsection (e) of section 303 of such Act, as added by subsection (a), shall apply to a surviving spouse of a servicemember whose death is on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section> 
<section id="HD802D2F2F3344E78825A9D3D02F5005B"><enum>2.</enum><header>Requirements for lending institutions that are creditors for obligations and liabilities covered by the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 207 of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HB686BE058E974FDAA0FD26D230EF75EF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating subsections (d) and (e) as subsections (e) and (f), respectively; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H8A1FE655DDBD47239606ED52CF615AF5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after subsection (c) the following new subsection (d):</text>

<subsection id="HC2235E22160D4B9983FE1FB13860A635"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Lending institution requirements</header> 
<paragraph display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H98102E03C0FC46BB93B98B7466EFBA99"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Compliance officers</header><text>Each lending institution subject to the requirements of this section shall designate an employee of the institution as a compliance officer who is responsible for ensuring the institution’s compliance with this section and for distributing information to servicemembers whose obligations and liabilities are covered by this section.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HAFFA493CAA414B70BBCAF22A8B4F62DB"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Toll-free telephone number</header><text>During any fiscal year, a lending institution subject to the requirements of this section that had annual assets for the preceding fiscal year of $10,000,000,000 or more shall maintain a toll-free telephone number and shall make such telephone number available on the primary Internet website of the institution.</text></paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section> 
<section id="H0616FDDA72E2426BAD18337CDB36AE5B"><enum>3.</enum><header>Extension of period of protections for servicemembers against mortgage foreclosures</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 710(d) of the Honoring America's Veterans and Caring for Camp Lejeune Families Act of 2012 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/112/154">Public Law 112–154</external-xref>; 50 U.S.C. App. 533 note) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H72064385E8C24DF2A68D17A16CD927E8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1), by striking <quote>December 31, 2014</quote> and inserting <quote>December 31, 2017</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H9261B913D3C8407EB0881F4C144671FC"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (3), by striking <quote>January 1, 2015</quote> and inserting <quote>January 1, 2018</quote>. </text></paragraph></section>
