		<official-title>To amend title 5, United States Code, to increase the
		  maximum age limit for an original appointment to a position as a Federal law
		  enforcement officer in the case of any individual who has been discharged or
		  released from active duty in the Armed Forces under honorable conditions, and
		  for other purposes.</official-title>

		<section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HCB847F158806437CBA1D684F00D461F1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Increase in maximum age
			 limit</header>
			<subsection id="H258B0A89065540A185B60D5864093673"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Positions
			 subject to CSRS</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/5/3307">Section 3307(d)</external-xref> of title 5, United States Code,
			 is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="H71AC91AE72DE425ABDC4B85CC24FD101"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>(d) The</quote> and inserting <quote>(d)(1) Except as provided in
			 paragraph (2), the</quote>; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H1F87323D31C8449B8336D71BBE499E1B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H1CE32AAB9F48484CB3A525E5E3707420" style="USC">
						<paragraph id="HF845C74395A842DFA8B7D4BF43722677" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The maximum limit of age within which
				an original appointment may be made to a position as a law enforcement officer
				(as defined by section 8331(20)) shall, in the case of an individual who,
				before the effective date of such appointment, was discharged or released from
				active duty in the armed forces under honorable conditions, be 40 years of
				age.</text>
						</paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H29F72DDF9E6B4D569BBD41604844F80C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Positions
			 subject to FERS</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/5/3307">Section 3307(e)</external-xref> of title 5, United States Code,
			 is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="HE97EB2A5C555432EB747404CDF2EA509"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1),
			 by striking <quote>Except as provided in paragraph (2),</quote> and inserting
			 <quote>Except as provided in paragraph (2) or (3),</quote>; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HE43E8922D9DD4C3BBE3AB271B9B84EB6"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HBC3AD85FC2DD44EF952E3B04F0EA9B8C" style="USC">
						<paragraph id="H4034891722094F818EE6EE696357A5BB" indent="up1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The maximum age limit for an original
				appointment to a position as a law enforcement officer (as defined by section
				8401(17)) shall, in the case of an individual who, before the effective date of
				such appointment, was discharged or released from active duty in the armed
				forces under honorable conditions, be 40 years of
				age.</text>
						</paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</paragraph></subsection></section><section id="H90EFB0D2154E43B4B391BAD2C8FF007D"><enum>2.</enum><header>Amendments to
			 prevent mandatory separation before becoming eligible to retire</header>
			<subsection id="HEC43E91C73824487A2D54A2F139CB675"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Amendment
			 relating to CSRS</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/5/8335">Section 8335(b)</external-xref> of title 5, United States Code,
			 is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HBBEB278B98484DDD8E2ADC9F26332124" style="USC">
					<paragraph id="H28007B8FEF6C46168A9AEDA4E0BF68E2" indent="up1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>In the case of an employee who,
				before the date of such employee’s original appointment to a position as a law
				enforcement officer, was discharged or released from active duty in the armed
				forces under honorable conditions, paragraph (1) shall be applied—</text>
						<subparagraph id="H5AB9086D854341ECBC5ED1C5DCDBE3FD"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by substituting <quote>60</quote> for
				<quote>57</quote>; and</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HAA0CC91F798A44BFAF7761B760280FB3"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by substituting <quote>63
				years</quote> for <quote>60
				years</quote>.</text>
						</subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection id="H35D9B3C49DAE4D65AAB64A3C281D6E28"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Amendment
			 relating to FERS</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/5/8425">Section 8425(b)</external-xref> of title 5, United States Code,
			 is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H04076864ECD14BB2A88BC3181F6997C7" style="USC">
					<paragraph id="HA47A377817CE436AA368CD1E588B67B3" indent="up1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>In the case of an employee who,
				before the date of such employee’s original appointment to a position as a law
				enforcement officer (as defined by section 8331(20) or 8401(17)), was
				discharged or released from active duty in the armed forces under honorable
				conditions, paragraph (1) shall be applied—</text>
						<subparagraph id="HF54BE9AFBE4040BF88C51209000DCEBA"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by substituting <quote>60</quote> for
				<quote>57</quote>; and</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HDBF20CEDE31E4FC9B80F83C461E51762"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by substituting <quote>63
				years</quote> for <quote>60
				years</quote>.</text>
						</subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection></section><section id="HFD6E6DA1ABA049CE9920BECDD0B3A0FE"><enum>3.</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header>
			<subsection id="HE7E85805F9A34CF8B8FC468C21666027"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Amendments
			 relating to maximum age limit</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendments made by section 1 shall
			 apply with respect to appointments made after the end of the 6-month period
			 beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H8CC3CFC691FF4489902445CB2BCF8910"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Amendments
			 relating to mandatory separation</header><text>The amendments made by section 2
			 shall apply with respect to individuals originally appointed as law enforcement
			 officers (within the meaning of the amendment made by subsection (a) or (b) of
			 section 2, as appropriate) after the end of the 6-month period beginning on the
			 date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
