R. 3588</legis-num><current-chamber display="yes">IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES</current-chamber><action><action-date>December 9, 2013</action-date><action-desc>Received</action-desc></action><legis-type>AN ACT</legis-type><official-title display="yes">To amend the Safe Drinking Water Act to exempt fire hydrants from the prohibition on the use of lead pipes, fittings, fixtures, solder, and flux.</official-title></form><legis-body id="H84C8E078C951433584B036403D4CA2DA" style="OLC"><section id="HFC04F96F3C4C4F1B87DF568D81C33103" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Community Fire Safety Act of 2013</short-title></quote>.</text></section><section id="HB35F9308113C4FA2A2C7ADE09981473A"><enum>2.</enum><header>Exempting fire hydrants from prohibition on use of lead</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1417(a)(4)(B) of the Safe Drinking Water Act is amended by inserting <quote>fire hydrants,</quote> after <quote>shower valves,</quote>.</text></section><section id="H591E25282D294BA6BBE468AB3AFE7943"><enum>3.</enum><header>Evaluation of sources of lead in water distribution systems and alternate routing systems</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency shall—</text><paragraph id="HD9B92D047F5249E2ADC73BBB2248B6DF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>consult with and seek the advice of the National Drinking Water Advisory Council on potential changes to the regulations pertaining to lead under the Safe Drinking Water Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/300f">42 U.S.C. 300f et seq.</external-xref>); and</text></paragraph><paragraph id="HE7E57CDDB511478793D0A152AB1E2517"><enum>(2)</enum><text>request the Council to consider sources of lead throughout drinking water distribution systems,<pagebreak></pagebreak> including through components used to reroute drinking water during distribution system repairs.</text></paragraph></section></legis-body><attestation><attestation-group><attestation-date chamber="House" date="20131202">Passed the House of Representatives December 2, 2013.</attestation-date><attestor display="yes">Karen L.
