		<official-title>To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act
		  of 1968 to provide death benefits for campus police officers.</official-title>

		<section id="H6FD0523250AD4204BE047A80F830E4DC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Officer Sean Collier Campus Police Recognition Act of
			 2013</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H31EC8D6F5CE74B42A2C73C2C1769EA84"><enum>2.</enum><header>Death benefits
			 for campus police officers</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1204 of the Omnibus Crime Control
			 and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/3796b">42 U.S.C. 3796b</external-xref>) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="HD3C3F9A536074BDD9A5E522427123B6B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating
			 paragraphs (1) through (9) as paragraphs (2) through (10), respectively;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HCB98AFA3101742D9B59F6E5E7161711C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting the
			 following before paragraph (2) (as so redesignated):</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HBB922DA0B1504D0983E5F5563DE73EA0" style="OLC">
					<paragraph id="HCD172CE1D4E8403F8520D91E650204D5"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><term>campus police officer</term> means a
				police officer—</text>
						<subparagraph id="HD48D870407FD47C498E7280F303C3C03"><enum>(A)</enum><text>who is authorized
				to enforce the criminal laws (including the authorization to make arrests);
				and</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H52A7BE709D28414989A3030675A3554A"><enum>(B)</enum><text>who is employed by
				an institution of higher education (as such term is defined in section 101 of
				the Higher Education Act of 1965), including a police or similar department
				operated by such institution;</text>
						</subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and
				</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H2A10AF8D0E66457BAE400D72D55729F5"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in paragraph (10)
			 (as so redesignated)—</text>
				<subparagraph id="HD8A4671048804301BD912B2249E91FC5"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in subparagraph
			 (C)(ii), by striking <quote>or</quote> at the end;</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HBF24A2BF0BB94EF0BA3713FCE5F0B000"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subparagraph
			 (D), by striking the period at the end and inserting <quote>; or</quote> ;
			 and</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H1A601B2182824F53940B421DA349A788"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by inserting after
			 subparagraph (D) the following:</text>
					<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HE85510A38FAF401997A66779525AB4B6" style="OLC">
						<subparagraph id="HD3A7488DB4C943709AAF2F583C129066"><enum>(E)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a campus police officer.</text>
						</subparagraph><after-quoted-block>. </after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
				</subparagraph></paragraph></section><section id="HB5ED0ECAB3E84A6DA3882EFAC0BB3E76"><enum>3.</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The amendments made by
			 this Act shall apply with respect to a personal injury sustained in the line of
			 duty by a campus police officer occurring on or after April 15, 2013.</text>
