		<official-title>To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act
		  of 1968 to extend public safety officers’ death benefits to fire police
		  officers.</official-title>

		<section id="HF76575B27B134FF09324E19A0071CF23" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Fire Police Fairness
			 Act</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HAB87657E9C174856B07C8615B31F76BD"><enum>2.</enum><header>Extending public
			 safety officer death benefits to fire police</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1204 of the Omnibus Crime Control
			 and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/3796b">42 U.S.C. 3796b</external-xref>) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="H60D5E49180AC43988FA008BF1A46868E"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">by redesignating paragraphs (5) through (9)
			 as paragraphs (6) through (10), respectively;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H080056001B9F4879BDAA960A306B8F17"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph
			 (10)(A) (as so redesignated by paragraph (1) of this section), by inserting
			 <quote>as a fire police officer,</quote> after <quote>firefighter,</quote>;
			 and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HF59A4B3833F84058940467F679B87DFA"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by inserting after
			 paragraph (4) the following new paragraph:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HA490DB6BAD5242118FA0FDF4355F05F1" style="OLC">
					<paragraph id="H3F3059DB4F354983A87B0A9DADE5B059"><enum>(5)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><quote>fire police officer</quote> includes
				an individual who—</text>
						<subparagraph id="H17E9FA7C8DFF49679DA2A7F5098D1553"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">is serving in accordance with State or
				local law as an officially recognized or designated member of a legally
				organized public safety agency but is not a law enforcement officer, a
				firefighter, a chaplain, or a member of a rescue squad or ambulance crew
				described in paragraph (10)(A); and</text>
						</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HFFB0533710C14B50BCA180F9B5F72824"><enum>(B)</enum><text>provides scene
				security or directs traffic—</text>
							<clause id="H3CDD988C27BA408FA19E8A6675F31DCE"><enum>(i)</enum><text>in
				response to any fire drill, fire call, or other fire, rescue, or police
				emergency; or</text>
							</clause><clause id="H18CEE0BC9A51439BBCDC1594330574B7"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>at a planned
				special
				event;</text>
							</clause></subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
