Abstract: A survey of 50 air tower pressure gages in service stations of suburban Washington, D.C., was performed.Results showed that a motorist using these towers has only a 20 percent chance of inflating his tires within plus or minus 1 psi of the pressure indicated by the tower's gage.It is shown that a calibration of the tower gages would reduce the standard deviation of the obtained pressure to 0.5 psi.
