Abstract: Progress in developing a new approach to radiometry based on electro-optical technology is discussed. A feasibility experiment that demonstrates and motivates the new approach is described. The laser-based, characterization facility that plays a central role in the new approach is described. This consists of the electrically calibrated pyroelectric radiometer that provides the absolute radiant power measurements, and the silicon photovoltaic detectors. Alternatives for extending the wavelength range of the new approach are also discussed.
